John advises us that he has been applying Tech Line Coatings for Schumacher Racing. This is the US Army Top Fuel Car. The team just won the event in Houston. The E.T. was 3.881 at 314.75 MPH and that was at 1000 ft, not a ¼ mile.

Bruce wanted to pass along the following information.

After receiving yet another sales call from a coatings company which sells competing products, I believe I should try to help prevent other coatings shops from falling into the same trap I did some years ago. This mistake cost me dearly.

Some years ago I was approached by a company which has recently contacted me again. They offered lower priced coatings, sent me a sample and it looked OK, so I used their coating on many sets of headers.

I had already been in the coatings business for about 8 years, using Tech Line products exclusively. There were basically no returns with CermaKrome, certainly none which the coating was at fault. But the lower cost was something as a businessman I could not, or at least I felt I could not, ignore.

Less than 1 year later the customer complaints started coming in. The headers we coated with this other coating were rusting badly, not just in the hard to get to areas you might miss when spraying carelessly, but on the greater area of the tubes. This never happened with CermaKrome. Before the next year was over I had recoated over half of these headers at my expense. If half of them came back, then I’m thinking most of them probably rusted, and I never heard about it, and I lost those customers. Let me tell you it’s a bad deal when you do your job, do it well, and you are let down by an inferior product.

The lesson I learned the hard way is that yes, other lesser priced coatings are available, but they just aren’t anywhere close to being as good as Tech Line’s. In fact, those few dollars I thought I saved cost me valuable time, money, and customers. It’s just not worth it.
