From Dan of:
Component Coatings
Saginaw, Mi,
Dan advises us that he is coating parts for the new GM ZL-1 engine.
He tells us that a good look at the engine can be found on the cover
of the November 2002 issue of Hot Rod Magazine.
This is the second Applicator we have spoken to in the past week
who has picked up an O.E.M.account.
PRI Show
We would like to remind everyone that the Performance Racing Industry
trade show will be taking place Dec 5-7th 2002 at the Convention Center
in Indianapolis, IN. For more information contact PRI at 1-949-499-5413.
See you there. Our booth number is 2343 (peninsula)
European Market
We just returned from a business trip to Europe, with our European
Agent, Mr. Peter Carter of Camcoat in the UK. We are seeing an increased
interest in coatings, for this market. This includes Performance as
well as O.E.M. Automotive applications. There is also increased interest
in industrial applications. This is mirroring the increased activity
we are seeing here in the US. With so many companies having international
operations, interest developed in Europe, will encourage growth in
affiliates here in the US. Obviously US sales will also impact European
companies with a US presence. The market for coatings seems to be
on a steady growth curve, world wide.
South Africa
From Gary Sartor of Sartor Bros.
Gary has provided us with copies of the latest testing being conducted
on our products. Both TLHB and Cermakrome passed the tests with flying
colors. The tests were conducted by SASOL in So. Africa. The primary
areas of interest were in corrosion protection, thermal stability,
and good flexibility. Both coatings easily met these requirements.
We hope to be able to provide the data from this test project shortly.
Mold Release Coatings
We are seeing expanded interest in the use of our coatings for mold
release. In one instance the need for a coating became critical after
silicone sprays and Teflon type products would not allow the finished
parts to release cleanly. We currently manufacture several coatings
that can be used in this market. We have formulations available that
can be used in food contact applications such as syntactic foam molds.
These molds are used to form the typical "clam shell" containers,
such as are used for holding food at fast food outlets. Rubber mold
release applications are also out there, and several of our systems
give excellent release properties with long term durability, thus
reducing down time for cleaning. Cermakrome has also been used to
repair damaged surfaces on molds saving considerable cost over re-machining
the mold.
Tech Tip
If you haven't been changing your sand regularly, be sure to start
a program to do so. Frequently adhesion problems can be traced to
sand that has become worn and no longer provides a good surface. We
have had several calls lately from shops that had not been changing
their sand regularly and when they did so their adhesion problems
were cured. The time between changes will vary from shop to shop,
depending on frequency of use and material utilized in the blasting
operation.
