The magazine used product 3401 (WSX) to coat some driveline parts in a radio controlled car. These are two stroke engines and rev to 38,000+ rpms. They picked up over 4 tenths of a second per lap lubricating the drive train. More importantly they stressed that parts won't wear out nearly as fast, more than paying for the cost of the product.

Doug passed on the following tip.

When mixing a coating using a blender, check that there is no material left under the blades near the shaft. There is a potential for material to be trapped there and not blend. Doug ran into this problem when he started getting what appeared to be “grit” in the coating as he sprayed it. He checked the area and saw that some material may not have been blending. He “pulsed” the blender with the coating in it and it picked up the coating and dispersed it into the mix. The application went just fine after that fix.

Occasionally we get reports of “grit” in the coating. When we check material that has been returned we do not find any grit present and the coatings sprays fine. The suggestion above may well explain some of these calls, as we use a dispersion blade to blend the material when testing. Any shop experiencing the “problem” may be using a blender and Doug’s experience seems to provide the solution. We always appreciate such tips from our Applicators, as they help everyone.
