Welcome to Techlines... May 2003

OVENS

We are currently working with a supplier of ovens that would be perfect for the Engine Builder / Machine Shop environment. These will run on 110V power and will handle cure temps to 500f. Since the Internal Engine coatings require between 300f and 350f for cure, these units should work very well for these applications.

At this time we are negotiating for a discount from the normal price, exclusively for Tech Line customers. Wherever possible we try to get discounts on equipment that we recommend, for our customers. Purchase would be direct from the supplier not through Tech Line.

NEW CBC1

Testing has been completed on the new CBC1 and is now available for sale. It will come in 3oz. Bottles and will retail for $29.95. Dealer pricing is available. CBC1 was designed to be a retail version of CBC2/CBX and is available for the Do-It-Yourself enthusiast. It is water based and contains no hazardous solvents, and uses many of the same ingredients as CBC2 and CBX. CBC1 is an excellent thermal barrier and will help make the combustion chamber more efficient which will allows the engine to produce more useable H.P. and Torque.

CIRCLE TRACK MAGAZINE

Watch for an article in the July 2003 issue. It focuses on Tech Line's retail products and gives a very good description of their use and application. For those shops who wish to take advantage of the availability of these coatings for resale just give us a call.

For Professional Coatings shops that are using our products, this story is an excellent spring board to use for recommending the wide variety of coatings that are not available at retail and require professional application. In addition the article does refer to professional Shops. It only lists two at the end of the story, one who buys from us and one who doesn't. This is a further example of how the media is responding to the increased interest in coatings. Coatings are no longer viewed as Black Magic or Snake Oil, by those in the know. Resistance to the use of coatings is fading rapidly.

High Heat Engine Coatings

One of the new products in development is a line of Engine coatings for cosmetic appeal. Initial tests have been very good. The coating is water based and will handle more temperature than typical powder coatings and is more flexible, with few of the problems associated with some powders. Obviously this system will be applicable to other components. Cure temp is currently being set at 200f. We are planning to develop a wide range of colors. Testing is continuing and we will advise the market when satisfactory testing has been completed.

VIBRATORY POLISHER "AMPLITUDE"

If you are not seeing the bright finish Cermakrome is known for or are experiencing chipping problems in your polisher, amplitude may be the culprit. Make an Amplitude gauge by drawing a line of "0" that are 2mm, 3mm, 4mm and 5mm in diameter (Example O O O O). Tape the gauge on the top corner of the long side of the tub. Let machine reach operating condition and look at the "0". The "0" will be seen at two points top and bottom of their movement (Example . The two that come closest to making a figure 8 are the amplitude. It is best to have Amplitude of between 3.5 and 4.5. Each size will be seen by the eye at the top and bottom of the movement. If it is the 4mm then you have an Amplitude of 4. If the 3mm circles overlap and the 4mm circles don't quite touch, then your Amplitude is between 3 and 4. Too much or too little Amplitude affects the polish and can even damage the coating in the tub.
