CLEAR COATS

Tech Line manufacturers a variety of Clear Protective Coatings. Each has certain characteristics that need to be considered when choosing a Clear Coat. In addition the application procedures will vary depending on the substrate. The Three major coatings are reviewed below.

CilGen Clear (Formerly CermaSeal)

This is a high heat exhaust top coat. It will maintain clarity and impart a mild gloss to substrate temperatures over 1000F. It can be applied over All Tech Line Exhaust coatings. When being applied over any CilGen™ based coating, it should be applied between 5 to 20 minutes after the final base colored coat is applied. Do NOT allow the color coat to dry for more than 1 hour after application or CermaSeal™ may not adhere.

When applying over Cermakrome™, Black Satin™, Turbo X™ or any ColorGard™ coating, fully cure these coatings BEFORE applying CermaSeal™.

Do NOT apply over a base coat such a HHBK™.

It is recommended that no more than 2 coats of CilGen Clear be applied. Allow the first coat to air dry to the touch before applying the second coat. Do NOT allow to air dry for more than 1 hour. Do NOT apply a thick coat of material.

CilGen Clear should be cured at 400F for 1 hour after a short air dry period. Produces a nice gloss that is extremely chemical resistant. Produces a hard surface with a nice gloss, that has good chemical resistant.

COLORGARD™ CLEAR

This is a High Temperature Exhaust coating primarily designed for application over the ColorGard™ series coatings that full cure at 500F. It will maintain clarity and impart a mild gloss to substrate temperatures over 1000F. It should be applied over air dried, but NOT baked material. If desired a 400 F for 1 hour partial cure of the base colored coat may be utilized to assure complete flashing of the solvents in the base colored coating. Do NOT fully cure the base colored coat prior to applying COLORGARD™ CLEAR. A second coat of COLORGARD™ CLEAR may be applied after the first coat has air dried. Do NOT apply a thick coat.

COLORGARD CLEAR should be full cured at 500F, along with the base colored coat.

CilGen LTC™

This is a medium temperature clear coat and can handle substrate temperatures up to 600F. It can be applied to virtually any substrate. It can be applied over Chrome, Polished Aluminum, Polished Cermakrome™, Polished Stainless Steel, Polished Brass, other polished metals and to plastic, ceramics and glass. It will also adhere to flash chromed plastic including flash chromed tape. A second coat may be applied after a short, 5 to 30 minute air dry. Do Not apply after 1 hour. LTC requires NO oven curing.

CilGen LTC is also used in conjunction with our Brilliance™ line of colored coatings. LTC has excellent chemical resistance and provides excellent UV protection
