Welcome to Techlines...January 2008 "The Industry Experts in
Thin Film Technology"
From: Pat Moore of Moore Performance, Waverly, NE.Pat wanted to pass on information on the paint guns he has been using. The brand is Paasche, Model # AURB -1 or AUFB -1 (“R” for round pattern “F” for fan) for Water Based like MCX and AURB-0 or AUFB-0 for solvent based. Cups may be attached either as a suction (which Pat prefers) or as a gravity/top feed. One body allows for either set up. The cup sizes are 3oz, 8oz and Qt. Suction part numbers are:
Gravity:
Dispersion: Hi Performance coatings need careful stirring/dispersing. Standard stir blades, like those used for paint stirring, do NOT adequately disperse such coatings. These coatings contain extremely fine powdered fillers, in some cases nano sized powders. During storage they settle and “clump” together. Normal stirring will not properly break these clumps up. Dispersion blades are designed to break up these clumps and disperse the particles throughout the resin/binder. Proper dispersing provides for an even distribution of particles creating a smooth, even colored finish. Coatings such as ColorGard Shiny Aluminum need such dispersion or an uneven or splotchy appearance can occur. Tech Line makes available, at a very reasonable price, dispersion blades for use in both quart and gallon containers. These are best for solvent based coating and will also work with water based coatings. Water based coatings may also be dispersed using a standard food blender, but solvent based coatings should not be dispersed using a food blender.
