NEW Piston Coatings

Tech Line is developing two new coatings for pistons. The first is a new skirt coating. This is a special anti-galling coating with advanced lubrication properties. An extremely tough, but thin film is created that is non-galling against metal. High pressure lubricants are added to decrease friction. This coating will be available under License only, to select shops.

A new piston top coating is also in development. This will be based on the CBX technology and is being developed utilizing advanced ceramic technology. The coating will be water based and available to all shops.

Both coatings are expected to be released at the Performance Racing Industry show in Orlando, FL in December. Be sure to be there.

AIR DRYING/CURING COATINGS

Several of our products are advertised as "Air Drying no baking required", such as Black Satin. This does not mean they are Air Curing. An Air Drying coating still needs heat to cure the resin. This can be accomplished in two ways, either by the exhaust heat when the engine is run or by baking in an oven. These coatings were initially designed for application on parts that cannot be baked due to their size or complexity or for Retail sales where baking is not practical. Until cured, these coatings can be damaged by solvents.

Other coatings, such as our CilGen line, contain several formulations that will Air Cure. These require no baking, though baking will accelerate the cure time.

MARKET

We continue to see increased sales, in double digit figures. This is an indication that the market is continuing to grow. Typically summer is the slowest period for coating sales, yet we were up substantially in both July and August and continue to see the same pattern for this month. We are seeing broad growth across all coating categories, not just in exhaust system coatings which typically dominate the sales charts.

Industrial sales are showing good growth as well, as that market continues to respond to the proven performance of our coatings. New Industrial products are in development, and as soon as they are ready for sale information will be posted as to their properties. This will ultimately be a far larger market than the High Performance Market.
